there's never enough time, you know? i wanted to tell her about how she was everything. i wanted to ask why she was sorry. i wanted to tell her that none of it mattered. i wanted to convince her to end the leaving. i wanted to kiss her for days. but you have to be defiant about these things, to not let time's shortcomings force your hand. so i shrugged and smiled and held bliss tight for the seven hours we had. and i tried my best not to draw out the farewells, because that too gives time the upper hand. i took my quick memories of a ship's wheel earring, of those green-on-green eyes, and i turned, and i knew that we win the long game
